Hampton, VA- The Morehead City Marlins earned their ninth win in as many tries versus the Peninsula Pilots with a 3-2 victory at War Memorial Stadium.
It was yet again a close contest for the Marlins, something that seems to be the norm these days for the Fish.
Peninsula took an early 2-0 lead after plating two in the bottom of the third off Marlins starter Jack Hodgins.
The Marlins answered right away, tying the game in the top of the fourth thanks to a Mason Maners sacrifice fly and a RBI double off the bat of Sean Johnson.
In the following inning Morehead City got their first lead of the game when Braeden O’Shaugnessy came around to score on a wild pitch. This would be the last run for either side the rest of the way.
Coach Sam Carel called upon Ryan Peterson in relief of Hodgins and he was excellent; twirling 3 ⅔ innings of shutout ball before handing things over to Brendan Bean and Reese Wissinger who finished the game off.
The victory completed the season sweep of Peninsula making the Marlins a perfect 9-0 on the year versus the Pilots.
Morehead City is back on the road again tomorrow at Fleming Stadium to duel with the Wilson Tobs.
