MOREHEAD CITY, NC–The Marlins returned to Big Rock Stadium for a matchup against the Peninsula Pilots, taking the win 14-1 in their 12th mercy win of the season.
The Marlins exploded out of the gate, scoring nine runs in the second inning off of rocky pitching from the Pilots and a home run from Jovan Gill.
Peyton Watts sent a solo shot to left center in the third inning adding one more run giving them a 10-0 lead through the third inning.
After struggles from the Peninsula pitcher and catcher, the Marlins plated four more runs in the fifth inning, increasing the lead to 14-0.
The Pilots added their lone run in the sixth inning.
Joey Hiller made his first start of the season going for five innings, walking two, and striking out two.
Bryce Nicolay came in to relieve Hiller, recording two strikeouts in one inning of work.
Drew Wedgeworth finished it out going for a clean inning in the seventh.
The Marlins now sit at 28-7 with eight wins in a row.
Morehead City will head back to Guy Smith Stadium tomorrow for a matchup against the Yard Gnomes. First pitch is slated for 6:30 and pregame coverage will begin at 6:20 on Mixlr.
