WILMINGTON, NC–The Morehead City Marlins (20-7) fell to the Wilmington Sharks (21-7) on the road 10-3 on Thursday night.
Errors were detrimental to the Fish, with four in total on the night. Five of Wilmington’s 10 runs were recorded as unearned due to the struggles in the field, reminiscent of the Marlins’ rocky play a few weeks ago.
Starting pitcher Kory Williams had trouble through the first inning, allowing three runs. Williams was able to battle back, however, making it through four total innings with no additional runs. His six strikeouts put him at 32 on the season, tied for second in the CPL.
Drew Wedgeworth followed up Williams on the bump, giving up three hits and four runs in his short outing. Blake Carter accounted for most of Wedgeworth’s runs with a three run homer.
John Gray and Ryan Jackson were good in relief, allowing just a hit each late in the game to keep Wilmington in check.
Morehead City’s bats remained cold following a poor showing against the Owls, recording just six hits on the night.
With the loss, Morehead City falls to second in the East Division standings, trailing the Sharks by half a game.
Morehead City will return home tomorrow to host the Zebulon Devil Dogz. First pitch is at 6:30pm at Big Rock Stadium. Fans can watch the game on Home Team Network, with pregame coverage starting at 6:15pm.
