MOREHEAD CITY, NC–The Morehead City Marlins defeated the Virginia Beach Valor 15-1 on Wednesday night.
The Marlins had 18 hits on the night and three home runs, including Lincoln Strump in his first at-bat of his debut. In a 2-1 count, Strump sent it deep to left field, scoring Zach Greenberg on the two-run shot. Jakob Haynes and Braxton Thomas also had home runs, helping the Marlins take a big lead which they’d hold for the night.
Drew Wedgeworth struck out four in his two inning start, giving up the lone run on a long ball from Ryan Hummel in the second.
Jake Friel earned the win in his debut, walking one and striking out two in the fourth.
Gavin Zoeller, Connor Brady, Jovan Gill, and Tyler DeLuzio also took the mound, combining for four innings, three hits, one walk, and six strikeouts.
The Marlins will play the Wilmington Sharks at home tomorrow. First pitch is set for 6:30pm at Big Rock Stadium. Fans can watch the game on Home Team Network, with pregame coverage starting at 6:20pm.
