MOREHEAD CITY, NC–The Morehead City Marlins defeated the Wilmington Sharks 12-2 to keep solo control of first in the division. 

The Marlins struck first in the third inning, scoring three runs after a two-RBI home run from Jon Howard and an RBI single from Zach Greenberg, scoring Jovan Gill. 

Wilmington responded with two runs in the top of the fourth. Gill responded with an RBI single that scored Howard. 

After adding one in the fifth, the Marlins added seven runs between the seventh and eighth innings. After a handful of walks, Grant Russo and Jon Howard each recorded RBI’s, plating three in the seventh. 

After five straight free passes and another RBI from Gill, the Marlins walked off the game with a run-rule victory. 

Carson Gipson, Matt Hubbard, Matthew Heard, and Ryan Jackson pitched for the Marlins, combining for eight strikeouts and holding a high-powered Wilmington offense at bay.

The Morehead City Booty Divers alter ego will return for a one-night special tomorrow against the Zebulon Devil Dogz. First pitch is at 6:30pm at Big Rock Stadium on July 10th, 2026. Fans can watch the game on Home Team Network, with pregame coverage starting at 6:15pm.
