MOREHEAD CITY, NC–The Morehead City Motorboaters (8-2) defeated the Wilmington Sharks (8-5) 2-0, behind strong pitching performances.

Drew Bowles started the game on the mound and went for four innings, recording two strikeouts. The righty from Transylvania University has now allowed just one run across 7.1 innings of work in his two starts.

Reid Bertram came in to relieve Bowles in the fifth inning. In 2.2 innings, he recorded three strikeouts and was credited with the win. Bertram was an All-Star and All-CPL player last summer for the Marlins.

John Gray’s 1.1 innings with one hit and one walk continued the dominant outings, with Sage Ferguson finishing the game in the ninth inning, recording two strikeouts to shut the door on the Sharks.

Sebastian Mexico was on fire at the plate with two singles, a triple, a walk, and two RBIs. The newest addition from Louisiana Tech University recorded his first hit for Morehead City tonight.

Despite leaving 11 runners on base, the defense of the Motorboaters held on. Cruz Harlan, Jovan Gill, and Jon Howard were particularly impactful in the infield, combining for 15 putouts.
