Wilson, N.C. (June 13, 2024) – Morehead City had the most impressive offensive inning of the season, putting up eight runs in the top of the fourth, en route to a 10-0 shortened win at Wilson. The Motor Boaters now own the top spot in the East Division, extending their winning streak to four. Morehead City is now 10-5 this season, while Wilson falls to 10-6.
The implosion in the fourth inning began when Nick Serce hit a moonshot over the right field wall for his fifth blast of the season, to put Morehead City up two to nothing. The party continued with Tommy Kendrick driving home a run with a single. Joe Quelch stepped up right after with a two run double to left center to make it five to zero. Erich Hartmann had his second hit of the inning with a run scoring single, followed by Serce making it a four RBI inning, with a two run double to left center.
The offense did not slow down the next inning when Brandon Scheurer led things off with a triple down the right field line. Luke Scales drove him in with a single, and Kamau Neighbors had a sacrifice fly to make it an even ten runs in over two innings.
The pitching staff was lights out once again, as three pitchers combined for the seven inning shutout. Aidan Layton made his first outing of the summer, and went four scoreless frames. Jack Decker earned the win striking out four batters over two shutout innings. Scheurer finished the game with a three up three down seventh, and two strikeouts after a two hit night at the plate.
The Motor Boaters are now an impressive 10-3 in their last 13 games and are in a tie at the top spot with the Pilots. Morehead City has the winning percentage advantage, and have leap frogged Wilson as well, who currently sit third in the division. Tomorrow will be the final night of the Motor Boater jerseys for now, as the Chum Bucket Challenge rival, Wilmington come to town. It will also be the first Fireworks Night of the year at Big Rock Stadium.
