Morehead City Plays Host for College Baseball Showcase Series at Big Rock Stadium

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. – For the second time in three weeks, the Morehead City Marlins will host college baseball games at Big Rock Stadium. Beginning Friday, March 3rd, the conveniently titled A Dream of Spring Showcase Series will look to take advantage of the warmer weather as the Crystal Coast welcomes another early spring.

Two Division II baseball programs will be traveling south to visit Morehead City to compete in a four-game showcase series at Big Rock Stadium. Having each completed their respective series in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina this past weekend, Post University (Waterbury, Connecticut) and Franklin Pierce University (Rindge, New Hampshire) will now make the trip to the Crystal Coast.

“We are overjoyed to welcome Franklin Pierce University and Post University to Big Rock Stadium for a four game set this weekend! With the success of the inaugural Presidents Day Weekend Tournament last week, both for the visiting teams and the local community, we hope to build upon the momentum of making Morehead City a destination site for early spring college baseball,” Morehead City Marlins General Manager Dave Lipay said.

Both visiting teams are off to hot starts in 2023, with Franklin Pierce currently sitting at a 4-1 record and Post at 6-5, as of today (2/27/23).

In 2022, the Franklin Pierce Ravens finished in second place in the Northeast 10 Conference (NE10), at 16-8 in conference play, with an overall record of 31-17. The Ravens lost on the final day of the NCAA East Regional, their 17th NCAA Championship appearance, having advanced further in the national tournament since claiming the regional title in 2016.

The Post Eagles ended their 2022 season with a 25-27 overall record, having won the North Division of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) with a 17-8 record in conference play.

There will be no charge for admission into Big Rock Stadium for fans looking to catch some of the action!
