Morehead City (May 31,2024) – RogerThe Morehead City Marlins staged a big comeback to topple the Greenville Yard Gnomes 9-4, fueled by a stunning seven-run explosion in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Yard Gnomes scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning, putting them ahead 4-1 for their first lead over the past two days. The Marlins did not take long to strike back.

The Marlins came roaring back in the bottom of the seventh, capitalizing on the poor command from several Yard Gnome relievers. Led by some timely hitting and disciplined at-bats, they put together an electrifying rally that saw them plate seven runs.

Trent Anderson emerged as a key figure in the Marlins’ victory, earning the win with a great performance on the mound. Anderson retired all five batters he faced, shutting down the Yard Gnomes’ offense. Starting pitcher Drew Stegura also threw very well, tossing four scoreless frames in his first day with Morehead City.

Meanwhile, for the Yard Gnomes, it was a tough outing for pitcher Patrick Gaffney, who was charged with the loss after struggling to find the zone during the Marlins comeback.

The offense for the Marlins got going when Nick Serce launched his third home run in as many days, giving the Marlins an early lead in the fourth. Additionally, Kamau Neighbors came through in the clutch with the game-tying hit in the seventh, driving in two runs to even things at four.

The Marlins showed a ton of resilience to win their second game in a row against the Yard Gnomes, and their fourth straight victory overall. The wonderful fans packed the stands at Big Rock Stadium making it difficult for the Yard Gnomes pitching staff to concentrate. The Marlins will travel to play the Peninsula Pilots tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. from War Memorial Stadium.
