MOREHEAD CITY, NC–The Morehead City Marlins (10-2) extended their win streak to five games, with a 10-9 victory over the Macon Bacon (6-8).
After inconsistent pitching from Macon walked two batters, Jakob Haynes hammered a ball over the left field wall for his second home run in as many days. More walks brought two around in the inning, making the score 5-1.
The Marlins added three more runs in the fourth inning, but slowed down after that, allowing the Bacon to crawl back into it, eventually making the score 8-7.
After scoring one in the seventh, Jon Howard sent a towering home run off the scoreboard, extending the lead to three runs heading into the bottom of the ninth.
Sage Ferguson came in for the eighth inning and struck out the side. Matthew Heard then came into the game in the ninth, giving up two runs, but retired the next three batters to earn the save.
The rest of the bullpen was solid as well. Aidan Newton started the game, going for 4.1 innings with five strikeouts, and Matt Hubbard pitched 1.2 innings with two strikeouts and earned the win.
The Morehead City Marlins will stay at home tomorrow night to host the Zebulon Devil Dogz. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30pm at Big Rock Stadium. Fans can also tune into the game on Home Team Network with pregame coverage starting at 6:15pm.
