MOREHEAD CITY, NC–The Morehead City Marlins (12-2) extend their win streak to seven games and maintain their perfect record at The Rock, with a 3-2 win against the Holly Spring Salamanders (7-9).
The Marlins bats struggled a bit in the game, recording seven hits and only scoring three runs, the fifth time they scored three or less.
Jakob Haynes and Joey Calabretti were the only Marlins to record multiple hits, both with two on the night. Calabretti’s were much louder as he launched a 420-foot home run over the left field wall in the second inning and a double in the fifth inning. He would later come around to score on a sacrifice fly to right field from Alex Cheeseman.
James Brock started the game on the rubber, going for five innings, giving up two runs, both home runs, and striking out seven while earning the win.
Owen Schneider, Sage Ferguson, and Matthew Heard came in for relief. The trio allowed only one hit and no runs. Heard pitched the final inning, recording two strikeouts and the save. Morehead City’s velocity was able to blow a multitude of fastballs past the Salamanders’ bats.
The Marlins will travel to Greenville to square off with the Yard Gnomes tomorrow in their first meeting of the season at Guy Smith Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30pm. Fans can watch the live stream on Home Team Network, or listen for free on Mixlr to the Marlins Radio Broadcast. Pregame coverage will start at 6:15pm.
