ZEBULON, NC–The Marlins had their second away doubleheader in a row, this time against the Zebulon Devil Dogs. Morehead City won the first game 15-2 and followed up with an 8-5 win in game two.
The Marlins started game one on the right foot, scoring eight runs in the second inning. The inning was highlighted by a grand slam from Jon Howard and a two-run homer from Jovan Gill.
Jakob Haynes smashed a three-RBI home run over the left field wall in the third to extend the lead.
Morehead City plated four more runs across the rest of the game.
James Brock started the game and went for five scoreless innings and gave up 7 hits.
Drew Wedgeworth came in to relieve him. He went for the final two innings giving up two hits and two earned runs.
In game two, the Marlins scored one run in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly from Haynes. In the second Jackson Sgro brought Jaden Greenidge around and Russo grounded out to bring around Jake Howard.
The Marlins added two more in the third inning after Gill was brought around on a double play and Jake Howard scored Touchstone on a double.
They added three more in the sixth. Haynes recorded a two RBI ground rule double before Gill scored him with a single.
The Devil Dogz made it interesting heading into the final inning with a score of 8-5. However, Kole Hopkins shut them down to secure the win.
Parker Gay got the ball for game two and went for four innings allowing five hits, two runs, walking one, and striking out five.
Gavin Zoeller, Joey Calabretti and Kole Hopkins came in to relieve. Calabretti gave up three runs while Zoeller and Hopkins held Zebulon scoreless to secure the win.
Morehead City returns home for the final game of the regular season against the Greenville Yard Gnomes on Saturday night. First pitch is slated for 6:30 and pregame coverage will begin at 6:20 on Home Team Network.
