Marlins rained out in exhibition after fast start, host Sharks for only Thirsty Thursday of the year tonight

Stepping out of Coastal Plain League play for the first time in the 2021, the Morehead City Marlins got off to a great start on the road at Edenton last night in an exhibition game, hitting three home runs in just 2 and 1/2 innings en route to a 7-0 lead before a monsoon hit Edenton and things got suspended.

Joe Mason (Mount Olive) led the game off with a line drive home run over the scoreboard in right field. 3 batters later, Jack Harris (Newberry) continued his scorching-hot start to the season, mashing a 2-run bomb onto the roof of the high school across the street from Historic Hicks Field.

The biggest hit of the game came from Justin Johnson (Lafayette) in the 2nd, however. With the bases loaded, Johnson launched a grand slam right onto the aforementioned road, and the Marlins quickly led 7-0.

Cam Seguin (UMASS-Lowell) and Joe Barberio (Canisius) held the Steamers to 0 runs through 2 innings before lightning and rain called the game as the bottom of the 3rd inning was about to begin.

Tonight, the Marlins return home to The Rock to continue the Golden Chumbucket series with Wilmington. It’s the first and ONLY Thirsty Thursday of the year at Big Rock, with $1 12 oz. draft beer specials throughout the game.

Tonight’s Thirsty Thursday game is sponsored by Safrit’s Building Supply!
