FOREST CITY, NC–The Morehead City Marlins (19-5) kept the bats hot tonight against the Forest City Owls (13-12) with a 14-10 win on the road.

Morehead City got out to an early jump with four runs in the first inning, powered by a leadoff hit from Grant Russo, with walks to Ronnie Rowley and Jakob Haynes. Russo ended up scoring on a wild pitch, while Jovan Gill knocked a double to plate Haynes. Errors later helped Braxton Thomas and Gill score.

The Marlins continued to put up some crooked numbers, including in the seventh, when they strung together several hits to plate five to jump out to a 12-7 lead.

The Owls’ bats had plenty of juice of their own, however, adding a run in the first and two in the second. Forest City would continue to chip away, with a run in the fifth, three in the sixth, two in the eighth, and one in the ninth.

The Owls’ Caleb Burr punched one over for his 11th homer of the season, scoring three runs for the home team and regaining some momentum in the game.

Grant Russo and Jovan Gill continued their excellence at the plate. Russo was 5-6 with two runs and two RBIs. The centerfielder is now 8-10 over the last two games. Gill followed up his four hit, two homer night against the Peppers with three hits tonight, including one home run and one double, good for three RBIs.

The Marlins will play on the road again tomorrow in Asheboro to face the Zookeepers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30pm at McCrary Park. Fans can watch the game on Home Team Network or listen for free to the Marlins Radio Broadcast on Mixlr, with pregame coverage starting at 6:15pm.
