MOREHEAD CITY, NC–The Morehead City Marlins couldn’t get back in the win column against the Holly Springs Salamanders, falling 7-4.
The Marlins started the game unable to record a hit in the first two innings. They were able to record three hits, and due to two errors, brought a run around.
The Salamanders matched it with one run in the top of the fourth.
Bray Touchstone hit a ball through the third base hole for an RBI single that scored Jackson Sgro in the fifth, giving them a 2-1 lead.
However, a big inning from the Salamanders in the top of the sixth gave them a 7-2 lead that they would hold onto for the remainder of the game.
The Marlins were able to plate one in the bottom of the seventh as Ethan Dillon crossed the plate and one in the ninth as Jon Howard drove Dillon across once again.
Kole Hopkins started on the mound, going for two innings, allowing no hits or runs, and struck out three.
Carson Gipson came in to relieve him and finished with a final line of 3.2 innings with eight hits, seven runs, one walk, and two strikeouts.
Drew Wedgeworth finished the game with two innings two hits, no runs, a walk, and three strikeouts.
The Marlins will be back at Big Rock Stadium against the Tri-City Chili Peppers on Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 6:30 and pregame coverage will begin at 6:20 on HomeTeam Network.
