Greenville, N.C. (June 2, 2024) – After the Marlins had their four game winning streak snapped last night to the Pilots, they came right back to beat the Yard Gnomes 7-2. The Fish finish the week with a 4-1 record, and improve to 5-3 overall.
Starting pitcher Brent Francisco dominated all night long, earning his second win of the summer. He worked six strong shutout innings, only allowing two hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Jack Decker and Jay Allmer both worked a scoreless frame respectively, and Trent Anderson finished it out in the ninth.
The offense was hitting the ball hard throughout the whole game and scratched five runs over the last three innings. The Marlins got the scoring started with a Connor Tucker double in the top of the second, bringing home Hayden Jatczak.
The Marlins brought home another run in the top of fifth after an Erich Hartmann walk with the bases loaded. Jatczak hit a moonshot over the left field wall in the top of the seventh during a three run frame. Tucker added another run with a single bringing home Hartmann, and two batters later Ben Hamacher joined the party with an RBI single up the middle.
Jatczak and Tucker continued their impressive days at the plate to add more insurance runs over the last two innings. Jatczak had a sacrifice fly in the eighth to bring home Brandon Scheurer, and Tucker launched one over the wall in right center for his third RBI of the game in the ninth.
The Marlins will enjoy an off day tomorrow after winning four games over a five day stretch, including three wins against the Yard Gnomes. The Fish Tacos will be back for the first time this summer on Tuesday night against the Tri-City Chili Peppers at 6:30 p.m. from Big Rock Stadium.
