HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C – It was not the Marlins’ night. Simple as that.
Holly Springs manhandled Morehead City from start to finish, with a 6-1 win at Ting Stadium on Thursday night. The main reason behind that? Noah Takac. The Salamander righty threw a complete game, giving up just one earned run with nine strikeouts.
Holly Springs scored first, and scored early, thanks to an RBI single by Justin Quinn. Jax Cash followed it up later in the bottom half with an RBI groundout.
Runs were not scored until the fifth inning. But the Salamanders grabbed four of them. Ben Miller hit a solo home run, followed by an RBI double from Cash Young. Miller’s solo shot was not the only big fly of the inning. Jake Gitter hit a 2-run home run that scored Young, making it a 6-0 Salamander lead.
The game’s final run came in the ninth. This time, though, for the Marlins. Jack Harris (Newberry) hit a leadoff solo home run, increasing hit home run total to a CPL leading 14.
The home run was Harris’ only hit on the night, going one for four.
Zack Miller (Catawba) went one for three, getting robbed of two separate base hits.
The Marlins move to 15-5 in the second half and 29-13 overall. Morehead City faces Holly Springs again on Friday night at Big Rock Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:05. Get tickets here.
