COLONIAL HEIGHTS, VA–The Morehead City Marlins traveled to Shepherd Stadium in Colonial Heights, Virginia for their first matchup against the Tri-City Chili Peppers, losing 6-2 and falling to a 5-2 record.
Starting pitcher Aidan Newton struggled in 1.2 innings of work, allowing five runs, two of which were earned, off back-to-back home runs from JT Brown and Conner Moore in the second inning. The other three unearned runs were due to errors from the infield.
Jakob Haynes was impressive at the plate, recording two singles and a triple, the only Marlin with multiple hits.
Despite only tallying one less hit than the Chili Peppers, the Marlins struggled to get runners home scoring two, both of which were Haynes.
Morehead City will look to get back on track against the Zebulon Devil Dogz tomorrow at Big Rock Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. and coverage will begin at 6:15 on Home Team Network.
