Hampton, V.A. (June 1, 2024) – The Morehead City Marlins could not get the bats going tonight as they lost 7-1 at War Memorial Stadium. The Marlins were unable to extend their winning streak to five, with left handed pitcher Trey Morgan earning the win for Peninsula going 5.2 scoreless innings.
Josh Lanham was given another tough loss after giving up one earned run across four innings. His command was off early walking four in the first, but found his rhythm to finish out strong. The bullpen had a tough night allowing six runs in four innings of work.
Kayden Crawford was the bright spot in the lineup with a two hit night. He had a base hit through the right side in the first, and one up the middle to drive in the lone run in the eighth. Luke Scales hit his second double of the summer down the left field line back in the fifth.
The Marlins had their best chance at the plate in the sixth with bases loaded and nobody out. However Morgan struck out back to back hitters, and Caden Plummer came in to relieve to get the final out of the inning.
The Marlins will be back on the road tomorrow at 5:05 p.m. against the Greenville Yard Gnomes at Guy Smith Stadium, their third meeting in four days.
