GREENVILLE, NC–The Morehead City Marlins (13-2) pulled off the 9-8 comeback win in Greenville against the Yard Gnomes (11-6) to keep their win streak alive, now at eight games.
Trailing 8-4, the Marlins put up four in the top of the eighth. Jovan Gill led off with a huge single, ricocheting off the center field wall. Logan Lowe and Ronnie Rowley both drew walks to load the bases with two outs. Grant Russo followed with a clutch single to center, scoring two.
Diego Diaz was able to follow with a single of his own, loading the bases once again. With the tying run on second, Sebastian Mexico drilled the 2-1 pitch into right to even it up 8-8 late in the game.
Morehead City was able to add one more in the ninth, walking Rowley with the bases loaded to take the lead. Brandon Carter would clean up in the bottom half, striking out two to seal the win.
Drew Bowles started the game for Morehead City, going for one inning with two hits, four runs, and two walks. Greenville was able to pounce early with their four runs, in part due to Matthew Fattore’s homer. the Yard Gnomes added one more in the second against Ryan Jackson to take a 5-0 lead right out of the gates.
Morehead City will return home tomorrow to host the Peninsula Pilots (4-10) at Big Rock Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30pm. Fans can watch the game on Home Team Network, with pregame coverage starting at 6:15pm.
