The Morehead City Marlins celebrated their first home game of the season with a thrilling 3-2 victory against the Tri-City Chili Peppers at Big Rock Stadium. The win marks the Marlins’ first of the season, improving their record to 1-2.
Marlins’ starting pitcher Brent Francisco delivered an outstanding performance. Francisco threw for six innings, allowing only two runs on six hits. He showcased his impressive skills with eight strikeouts and only one walk, getting into his bag with a mix of breaking balls and heaters.
The Tri-City Chili Peppers’ Andrew Jones took the mound to start for the visiting team, pitching four solid innings. Jones allowed one run on four hits, just the Marlins’ second run of the season.
The Marlins started to jump on reliever Eli Parks in the fifth inning. Connor Tucker’s go-ahead hit brought Luke Scales into home, taking the lead 3-2.
The bullpen for Morehead City has been outstanding through three games, allowing only seven runs through 25 innings. Jay Allmer came back out on the bump after one inning in relief at Holly Springs, making it through another scoreless inning. Trent Anderson closed out for the Marlins, recording a six-out save in his first outing of the season.
The atmosphere at Big Rock Stadium was electric, with fans eager to witness the Marlins’ debut on their home field in 2024.
The Marlins will look to continue their momentum on Wednesday at the Wilmington Sharks. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
