MOREHEAD CITY, NC- The Marlins got back to their winning ways Friday night against the Peninsula Pilots 4-1.

RHP Tyler “Truck” Wehrle was back to his usual form last night as he was striking out Pilots hitters left and right. Wehrle started the top of the 1st inning off with two straight strikeouts and then after hitting the third batter with a pitch, struck out the 4th batter.

Both offenses got going in the 2nd inning as the Pilots scored 1 run in the top of the 2nd. A sac fly from Pilots catcher Cole Stanford brought home Trey Morgan from third base.

The Marlins then matched that run with a run of their own in the bottom of the 2nd. After the first two hitters were retired, Braeden O’Shaughnessy laced a single and then another single from Marlins newcomer Jase Felker set up the offense. Then the leadoff man Sean Johnson roped an RBI single scoring O’Shaughnessy and tying the game.

After the second inning it was all Marlins pitching. Wehrle went 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 10 K’s. LHP Logan Garza came in to relieve Wehrle and then an inning later LHP Brendan Bean took over.

Bean was electric as he went 1 2/3 IP, 1 BB, 4 K’s. Bean also got the win in the effort.

The score remained tied at 1 a piece heading to the bottom of the 7th when leadoff hitter Zack Miller crushed one over the left field wall for a solo home run. Miller’s bomb traveled 400 ft. and gave the Marlins a 2-1 lead.

The Marlins were able to find some insurance runs and take a 4-1 lead.

Reese Wissinger came on to close it out and he did just that going 1 1/3 IP, 2 K, 1 H which sealed the Pilots fate as the Marlins won 4-1 which moves their record to 20-7 on the year.

Wissinger was credited with the save.

The Marlins will be back in action on Saturday night, July 2nd as they take on the Wilmington Sharks in Wilmington, NC.
