WILMINGTON, NC–The Morehead City Marlins traveled to face the Wilmington Sharks with huge playoff implications. The Marlins dropped a heartbreaker in the first game 6-5, and the second game 11-6.
They started game one with two runs in the first inning. Then Jovan Gill led off the third inning with a solo shot, which was followed up by an RBI-double from Jackson Sgro scoring Bray Touchstone and moving Joey Calabretti to third, and he would score on a wild pitch, giving the Marlins a 5-0 lead.
However, it was all downhill from there as the Sharks scored four runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to secure the victory.
Ryan Jackson opened on the mound for the second time this season. He went for 5.1 innings, giving up just two hits, three runs, walking three and striking out two.
Matthew Heard stepped up for the last two innings, going for 1.2 innings allowing five hits and three runs.
To start game two, the Marlins scored a run in the first inning, but the Sharks responded with five in the bottom of the second.
Joey Calabretti and Jon Howard hit home runs in the top of the second, tying the game. However, Wilmington responded with another five run inning taking a 10-5 lead. Each team would plate one more run and the Sharks took game two of the double header 11-6.
Connor Brady took the bump and went for an inning giving up six hits and five runs.
Jake Friel came in to relieve going for four innings, six runs, and two strikeouts.
Jake Howard finished the game with one inning, no runs, and a strikeout.
The Marlins will travel to Zebulon to face off against the Devil Dogs tomorrow. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. and pre game coverage will begin at 4:50 on Mixlr.
