MOREHEAD CITY, NC–The Morehead City Marlins hosted the Tri-City Chili Peppers for their last matchup of the regular season. The Marlins got back in the win column with a walk-off walk from Jackson Sgro.
They started the game on fire, putting up nine runs in the first inning with eight hits. Bray Touchstone, Joey Calabretti, Diego Diaz, Grant Russo, and Ethan Dillon all recorded RBIs. Russo smashed his first home on his second at-bat of the inning, a three-run shot.
They went quiet after that inning, recording just seven hits for the rest of the game.
Tri-City dominated the middle innings, scoring seven runs in the middle innings and two in the seventh to tie the game at nine.
Matthew Heard stepped up in the bottom of ninth to hold the Chili Peppers scoreless and give the Marlins a walk-off opportunity.
Jovan Gill led off the bottom of the inning with a single, putting the winning run on base. Touchstone hit a double to move the winning run to third. Tri-City elected to walk Joey Calabretti, loading the bases. Sgro then walked on four pitches, winning the game and snapping a four game losing streak.
Joey Hiller started on the mound and went for two innings, allowing no runs and just one hit
Broderyk Miller came in to relieve him, going for 1.1 innings, giving up four runs, and walking six batters.
Gavin Zoeller, Kole Hopkins, and Calabretti would take the mound before Heard.
He finished the game with one hit and two strikeouts.
Morehead City will travel to Wilmington tomorrow for a double header against the Sharks. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. and pre game coverage will begin at 4:50 on Mixlr.
