Morehead City, N.C.- A tough loss for the Morehead City Marlins at the hands of the Macon Bacon by the score of 11-4 to even the Pettit Cup Finals series at 1-1.
The night immediately opened in the disfavor of the Marlins by allowing three runs in the top of the first. The offense would respond with a two RBI base knock from Zach Miller to make it 3-2.
But with the Macon offense sizzling at the plate, they put up another three spots to make it a four run Bacon lead. The lead then reached nine off of a five run top of the fourth that featured a grand slam from the Macon designated-hitter Alex Canty.
But trailing 11-2, the Marlins showed early fight with a run in both the fourth and fifth innings. However, the game would remain stalemated from there with either side scoring a run in the final four innings of baseball.
Game three of the Pettit Cup Finals is tomorrow night at Big Rock Stadium at 7:05 and represents win or go home baseball. With both teams down to their final 27 outs on the year and the final game of the CPL season.
