Marlins Edged At Home By Holly Springs

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. – The Morehead City Marlins (24-10) were defeated by the Holly Springs Salamanders (12-23), for the first time this season, 3-2 at Big Rock Stadium.

The Marlins scored the first runs of the game early in the first inning. Danton Hyman (Newberry College), who notched the only two Marlin hits of the evening, led off the bottom of the opening frame by drawing a walk. Will Johnson's (Eastern Kentucky) ground ball caused an overthrow from the Salamanders shortstop, who tried to start the double-play, allowing the two runners to move into scoring position.

A ground ball to the right side from Craig Lewis (Seton Hill) scored Hyman as the first run of the game. Another infield groundball followed from Joe Mason (Pitt CC) bringing Johnson in to give the Marlins a 2-0 lead.

Ashton Raines (Bloomsburg University) made his third start of the summer and retired the first nine batters he faced. The junior struck out five of those nine batters and finished with a total of nine strikeouts.

In the top of the fourth inning Holly Springs started with a single and double that scored one run. Salamander's catcher Peyton Isaacson then took a pitch down the right field line and over the wall to give Holly Springs the lead the 3-2 advantage.

Brandon Marklund (Bryan College) took over in the sixth and pitched 2.1 innings. The right-hander allowed two hits, while striking out two, and not allowing a run.

Kenny Wells (Seton Hill) then took over for the final five outs and recorded three strikeouts, only facing six batters.
