Former Marlin Makes MLB Debut

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. – Former Morehead City Marlin Jerry Vasto made his Major League debut for the Colorado Rockies on Sunday night. Vasto became the sixth all-time Morehead City alumni to make their MLB debut after entering Sunday's game in relief against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

"Our entire organization is proud of Jerry and all the hard work he has put in to fulfill his dream" said Marlins owner Buddy Bengel. "We are glad to have been a part of his journey to the big leagues."

Vasto was selected in the 24th round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Rockies out of Felician College. In 161 career Minor League games, the left-hander accumulated a 3.70 ERA and 227 strikeouts across only 189.2 innings pitched. Most recently, Vasto held a 1.71 ERA and struck out 26 batters in 21 innings pitched at the AAA level in 2018 before his call up.

The Marlins saw Vasto pitch 12 innings for them during the 2013 season, allowing only two runs for a 1.20 ERA while striking out 10 and holding opponents to a .205 batting average. Vasto marks the sixth former CPL player to make their major league debut in 2018, and the 115th all-time.
