Nevertheless, the 2017 Morehead City Marlins comprised of a special group of players who left each fan in the stands at Big Rock Stadium captivated by their thrilling performances on the field every home game.

    Morehead City, N.C. - - - The Morehead City Marlins dropped consecutive contests to the visiting Edenton Steamers Sunday night for the final meetings between both teams in the 2017 campaign. The Steamers tallied a narrow 6-5 victory in the game one followed by a commanding 10-4 triumph in the second contest.

    Wilmington, N.C. - - - Morehead City Marlins right-handed starting pitcher Nolan Clenney (NC State) tossed six innings, allowing one earned run on five hits and nine strikeouts; however, the MHC bats went silent in a 2-0 loss to the host Wilmington Sharks from Buck Hardee Field at Legion Stadium Saturday night. With the loss and Edenton victory, the Marlins have officially been eliminated from Petitt Cup playoff contention.

    Morehead City, N.C. - - - The Morehead City Marlins saw their four-game hot streak come to an end in a 9-2 defeat to the visiting Peninsula Pilots from Puck O'Neal Field at Big Rock Stadium Friday evening. Peninsula posted a complete all-around effort on the offensive and defensive side. The Pilots pitching staff held the Marlins to just three total hits, while the offense tallied three two-run homers with 10 hits in the contest.
  • Fish win 4th straight in 6-5 comeback win over Wilson

    Wilson, N.C. - - - Trailing 5-4 with two outs in the ninth inning, the Marlins drew three consecutive walks and tallied two runs in the inning to grab the lead en route to a huge comeback victory over the host Wilson Tobs from Fleming Stadium Thursday evening. The Fish win their fourth consecutive game heading into the final weekend of the regular season.
  • Marlins win third straight in 3-2 walk-off thriller over Holly Springs

    Morehead City, N.C. - - - Morehead City Marlins center fielder Alec Wilson (Stanford) scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning to secure an exciting 3-2 walk-off victory over the visiting Holly Springs Salamanders from Puck O'Neal Field at Big Rock Stadium Wednesday evening. The Marlins tally their third consecutive win, walking off for the third time at home. Each of those victories were on wild pitches.

    Fayetteville, N.C. - - - The Morehead City Marlins trailed 5-3 entering the top of the sixth inning before the Fish rallied with four unanswered runs to take the lead, securing the 7-5 victory over the host Fayetteville SwampDogs from J.P. Riddle Stadium Tuesday evening. The Marlins trailed by as many as three runs in the contest before notching a huge comeback triumph on the road.

Mitchem allowed two earned runs in the ninth frame after tossing eight previous shut-out innings.
  • Marlins split doubleheader with Tobs in defensive battle

    Wilson, N.C. - - - The Morehead City Marlins split the doubleheader with the host Wilson Tobs from Fleming Stadium Saturday evening, winning game one by a final score of 11-6 and fell in the second contest 3-1 in seven innings. The first game was a continuation of suspended play from July 4th.

The Marlins drop their ninth consecutive game to the Sharks, facing Wilmington one more time in the 2017 campaign on August 5 from Buck Hardee Field.

    Fayetteville, N.C. - - - After the Marlins scored first in the contest, the host Fayetteville SwampDogs scored 14 unanswered runs in the next five innings en route to a 17-3 victory from J.P. Riddle Stadium Thursday evening. The Marlins conclude their three-game road trip with a 1-3 record before returning home tomorrow night.

    Hampton, Va. - - - The Morehead City Marlins tallied a season-high four home runs in the contest, powering the visitors to a 9-4 victory over the host Peninsula Pilots Wednesday evening. The Fish played their final game in Hampton for the 2017 campaign, finishing 2-0 at War Memorial Stadium this summer and increased their season series lead to 3-1.

    Morehead City, N.C. - - - Morehead City Marlins catcher Kyle Skeels (Coastal Carolina) had another huge night at the plate with a pair of solo home runs; however, the Marlins dropped their ninth consecutive game to the Wilmington Sharks by a final score of 7-4 from Puck O'Neal at Big Rock Stadium Monday evening. Skeels now has tallied four home runs and 10 total RBIs in the last two games.
  • Marlins roll over Tobs 17-10 for third straight win

    Morehead City, N.C. - - - The Morehead City Marlins offense put on a record-setting performance with a season-high 17 runs on 18 hits in the host Marlins 17-10 victory over the visiting Wilson Tobs from Puck O'Neal at Big Rock Stadium Saturday evening. MHC catcher Kyle Skeels (Coastal Carolina) posted a monster night at the plate, finishing 4-for-4 with a team record eight total RBIs in the contest. Skeels had a pair of two-run homers, a two-RBI double, RBI walk and run-scoring single.

    Morehead City, N.C. - - - The Morehead City Marlins tallied 15 runs on 15 hits in the game one victory followed by a complete shut-out from right-handed pitcher Zach Usselman (NC State) in game two, leading the host Marlins to a doubleheader sweep over the visiting Edenton Steamers from Puck O'Neal Field at Big Rock Stadium Friday evening. The Marlin claimed the 15-9 triumph in the first contest followed by a 3-0 win in game two.

The Marlins drop their seventh straight game to the Sharks with Wilmington leading the season series 9-4.

    Edenton, N.C. - - - Due to unplayable field conditions at Historic Hicks Field in Edenton, tonight's doubleheader between the Morehead City Marlins and Edenton Steamers has been suspended. A make-up date to finish the suspended game from July 2 and the second full contest will be determined in the near future.
  • Former Marlin Caleb Smith (’11) makes MLB Debut with Yankees

    Morehead City, N.C. - - - 2011 Morehead City Marlin and former Sam Houston State University left-handed pitcher Caleb Smith made his Major League Baseball debut last night with the New York Yankees. Smith tossed three innings in relief, allowing two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts against the Minnesota Twins from Target Field.
  • Homers from Corley and Perez lead Marlins to 7-3 win over Tobs

    Morehead City, N.C. - - - Morehead City Marlins shortstop Chandler Corley (Armstrong State) and designated hitter Randy Perez (Central Methodist) each drilled their second home runs of the season, leading the host Marlins to a 7-3 victory over the Wilson Tobs in a weather-shortened game from Puck O'Neal at Big Rock Stadium Saturday evening. The game entered a lightning delay after the conclusion of the sixth inning until the contest was officially called due to more inclement weather in the area.

The Marlins win on a walk-off wild pitch for the second consecutive game by the same final score.

The Marlins played in back-to-back 10-inning contests after falling to the Holly Springs Salamanders 4-3 on a walk-off single from Ting Stadium last night. Morehead City tallied its first walk-off triumph of the 2017 season.
  • Former Marlin Cal Quantrill selected for MLB All-Star Futures Game

    Miami, Fla. - - - Former Morehead City Marlin and Stanford University right-handed pitcher Cal Quantrill ('14) has been selected to play in the Major League Baseball All-Star Futures Game this Sunday, July 9 from Marlins Park in Miami. The annual exhibition game features the top Minor League baseball prospects from the United States and a team of prospects from other countries in the World competing against each other in a nine inning contest. Quantrill will represent his home nation of Canada and play for the World team.

    Holly Springs, N.C. - - - Holly Springs first baseman Zach Piazza (Limestone) tallied a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Morehead City Marlins fell to the host Holly Springs Salamanders in a heartbreaking 4-3 decision from Ting Stadium at the North Main Athletic Complex Friday evening. The MHC pitching staff held the Salamanders scoreless for six consecutive innings before the hosts posted the game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

  • Game at Wilson suspended due to rain

    Wilson, N.C. - - - Tuesday evening's contest between the Morehead City Marlins and host Wilson Tobs was suspended due to heavy rainfall and unplayable field conditions from Fleming Stadium. The game will be finished on July 29 from Wilson with the Marlins leading 9-3 in the top of the fifth inning. Morehead City held a 1-0 advantage before 90 minute rain delay in the bottom of the second inning.

Wilmington scored 10 out of its 16 runs all with two outs in the contest.

Tonight's contest will be made up at a later date in the season with the Marlins leading by a score of 3-2 entering the top of the fifth inning.
