MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. — The Morehead City Marlins lost against the Fayetteville SwampDogs at Big Rock Stadium on Saturday night. The loss is the 2nd straight for the Marlins, just the 3rd time all year that they have lost consecutive games.
The SwampDogs struck early with a pair of runs off of Marlin starter Tyler Blomster (Colorado School of Mines). Though the Marlins fought back with three runs in the bottom of the first, the SwampDogs piled on in the ensuing innings, with 3 runs in the third and 5 in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
Four different SwampDogs had multi-hit games in their 12-hit performance, and Brandon Talley (Louisiana-Lafayette) went 3-6 with a homer to pace their offense.
The Marlins racked up 11 hits in the losing effort, with Daniel Little (Richmond) and Hunter Shepherd (Catawba) providing multi-hit games.
The loss also marked the first time since July 2, 2015 that the SwampDogs beat the Marlins at Big Rock Stadium, a streak spanning 15 games over parts of five seasons.
The Marlins are off for the next three days for the all star break, but will return home on the 10th to host the Edenton Steamers at Big Rock Stadium.
